Connecting building block Azure technologies for speed to market

Technology partner, Insight, used a broad range of Azure technologies, including Azure IoT Hub, Azure IoT Edge, Azure Cognitive Services, and Azure Machine Learning to create Citizen Care Pod intelligent functionality. Those Azure technologies combined with PCL’s Job Site Insights™ and Insight’s Connected Platform create a flexible foundation for ongoing innovation.

Fueling distance collaboration

The bicoastal group had members on both sides of the Canada and US border, but even when members were in the same city, they couldn’t meet in person. Microsoft Teams became their virtual project office from the first day. Even though some people were first-time Teams users, they found that they could do everything they needed to do virtually, including exchanging and discussing architectural drawings and technical flowcharts. And with COVID-19 disrupting supply chains, brainstorming about alternative suppliers and products was vital.

Interacting safely with intelligent technology

The entry point for patients begins with Bosch security cameras that are mounted on the pods. using AI-enabled cameras, the Citizen Care Pod uses IoT and AI to analyze data at the edge from a variety of sources to support a health-secure environment for patients and frontline healthcare workers. The Computer Vision service measures the distance between people, checks for masks, and provides queue size numbers.
Patients can self-assess their symptoms by using tablets that are running the Windows 10 operating system, which are mounted on the outside of the pods safely away from the testing queues. Using Azure AI, patients can access the most up-to-date COVID-19 information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention bot, which is enabled by Azure Health Bot. The tablets also provide contactless communication with the healthcare workers inside the pods, and patients who don’t speak the same language as the healthcare workers can access translation services through Azure AI.
